Principal photography began on April 13, 2015 in Toronto, Ontario , Canada , and other locations in Ontario , including Hamilton and Oshawa . Filming concluded on August 29, 2015. David Ayer's daughter joined the crew as an assistant director during post-production. The film was converted to 3D in post-production. The final trailer for "Suicide Squad" was released on July 5, 2016. It was attached to showings of "Ice Age: Collision Course" and "Jason Bourne". The film premiered in New York City on August 1, 2016. It was released in North America in 3D, 2D and IMAX, along with 73 other markets, on August 5, 2016.
